Rømø is linked to the Danish mainland by a road running across a causeway.
The Römö island developed after the last ice age as a dune row in a sand bank.
Romo is inhabited probably since the 13. cencury.
The largest part of Romo is unspoilt nature.
Particularly in the middle part of Romo there is a large protected area with marvelous dune plants.
Also there are some other things to admire on Römö, - one finds a garden fence in the north of Römö, made from mandibles of whales from the year 1772.
In the small village Juvre the Kommandørgården, an old yard from the center 18. century, is situated.

The small Rømø Church with sailor graves is likewise very beautiful and offers various concerts, from Gospel to organ concerts.
Most interesting I found the Bunkers tour.
Old bunkers from the World War II gives one an insight of the german occupation and the islands military function of that time.
It's a small adventure: Dressed in old clothing, rubber boots and electric torch we are climbing down ladders, through tubes, to get into the bunkers.
Later der was a lecture with slides, that clearly informed about the life conditions under the german occupation. Duration of it all, about 2½ hours.

The marvelous sandbeach of Römö is surely the most important attraction of the island.
You will find one of Europes largest beaches here on Romo. It is more than 10 km long and up to 2 km wide. At this beach the life particularly takes place in the summer.
Everything is possible here: Parties, windsurfen, beach sailing, kitebuggy driving riding, beach surfing, walking, kite flying ect.
Excepting a few areas you may drive a car everywhere on the beach on Romo. It is super comfortably, especially for small children, who can have their problems walking longer distances in the sand.
Simply unsaddle, sit down in the sand, dig shells, here are many things in the sand to collect, and kites to fly immediately !
Some ranges are closed for cars, so that Beach Buggys and Kite Buggys are not endangered.
Suitable for this in Naturcenter Tønnisgård, there is an exhibition wiht the theme The Wadden Sea, with history telling about Römö and its geological characteristic.
This is also the starting point for many activities for kids and adults.
For instance: Wadden Sea Excursion, Tour of the bunkers, Play with mussels, Build a kite and Bird tours.

Römö is a Danish island in the Wadden Sea. Römö is part of Tønder municipality.
In the center of the island Romo there is actually some forest with signpost describing the beautiful moving ways.
Otherwise Romo is best explored by cycle, which can be rented nearby.
There is also a leisure land with all kinds of attractions like water chutes, animals and all kind of actions.
This marvelous beautiful island Romo also super suitably to kite pastes.
Dogs are at the beach no problem.
From october 1th until april 1th dogs may run freely on the beach, while under the control of the owner. Any other time they must be leashed.
By the village Kongsmark and near to Lakolk there is a fencing where dogs can run freely, still under control of the owner.
Even with long runs and romping about on the beach, excursions on bikes or in the car, - together on vacation with your dog makes it more fun.

The café, restaurant and shopping mile at Lakolk located next to the wide beach.
On the beach you will allso find Römö Ranch, where you can hire horses and ponys, and recieve riding lessons.
You can ride alone or join a group for a horseriding on the beach.

Havneby is a small harbour where the ancient fishers of Römö went out on whale fishing.
Here you'll find more small fish restaurants that you must visit.
You wont get fresher fish on your table anywhere.
The ferry to Sylt is an excellent possibility for an excursion.
It sails fro and to between Römö and Sylt.
Passing the sea seal banks, a beautiful view.
The ferry is nice and clean and the staff friendly, and the ferry is seldom late.
To recommend is the catch-fresh fish in the small fish restaurants at the Romo Port area in Havneby.
Also the selection of fresh fish in "Anni" fish shop is great.
