Kommandørgården / The Commanders House
The building dates from 1748 and is fully restored, including panels, ceilings and doors and bears witness to the prosperity which the commanders brought to Rømø.
The walls are covered with Dutch tiles and the furnishings are, for their time, extremely lavish. About 50 sailors from Rømø served simultaneously as captains on Dutch and German ships which sailed on whaling expeditions to Greenland.
Kommandør is the Danish word for captain.
